WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THE MLB (MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL) PLAYOFFS

The boys of summer are heading into the best time of year for baseball fans - fall ball.

The Miami Marlins are back in the playoffs for the first time in two decades, led by the first female general manager in MLB history, Kim Ng. Ng's appointment is a groundbreaking moment for women in sports. Notably, the Marlins are the only team in men's major U.S. team sports, with women holding key positions in business and on-field operations. This season brought us more women in C-suite roles at MLB teams than ever before.

In this episode, we dive deep into the thrilling world of Major League Baseball playoffs, like more women in the C-suite, breaking attendance records, and money doesn't buy playoffs. We discuss the underdog teams, what to expect and share what it's like to work for an MLB team and be at a playoff game with obnoxious fans when your team gets swept. LISTEN UP

Short and Sweet

  • While the Las Vegas Aces (WNBA - Women's National Basketball Association) prepare for the finals against the New York Liberty on Sunday, they got a boost of seven championship rings after Tom Brady was officially approved as a minority team owner.

  • Florida State's athletic department is about to get more equitable, but not exactly by choice. The Seminoles announced they will add a women's lacrosse team to its roster of varsity sports 18 months after they were reported to not be in compliance with the Title IX law.

  • The Texas Rangers (MLB) shut out the Tampa Bay Rays in the first wild card game. Luckily for the Rays, most of the stadium was empty, with the lowest attendance (non-COVID year) for a postseason game in 104 years.

  • The four-part documentary "Beckham," which showcases the soccer star's rise from humble beginnings to one of the most recognizable players of his time, starts streaming on Netflix today.
